I’ve realized that not only am I gonna be an independent college student soon, but im also gonna be below the poverty line, which is awesome. I think this means that im either gonna have to learn how to hack peoples identities or get like 9 jobs…9 jobs sounds more realistic. But I was thinking about what was making me poor, and ive come to a conclusion…its because I have to pay so much for everything. $70 for my cell, $120 for insurance, $150 for my car loan, a future $300 rent, and $1,000,000 on gas every week, I barely make anything over minimum wage, at two jobs none-the-less, and im still suffering. So, because I immensely enjoy being the victim, I started wracking my mind to find a culprit to blame…good news, I found a few.
I’ve realized that everything unpleasant in life stems from the rules dictated by the people in charge…the man if you will. College tuition, sales tax, and the illegalization of prostitution in California are just a few instances of the baggage these people have inflicted on my tender, yet up-and-coming generation. Hypothetically, there are thousands of ‘the man’ all over the United States, nay, the world. Now who are these leaders, how did they become who they are, and why do they enjoy making me cry?
They are Baby boomers and they’re in charge because the people before them died. But why is it that every ceo and politician (because in essence that the stereotypical bb in power) want to make me suffer? Because they are bitter that I lack a bald spot and a weakness for sun light? These people, if they really cared for our society, would make my transition from dependant to actual functioning citizen as painless and educational as possible, I mean, ill eventually replace them right? It would make sense if they didn’t use the ‘if you suffer, you learn’ approach*, my personal feelings being that its not that they care if I suffer, its more their concern for their profit margin.
Now don’t say that I’m being too hard on them, that in my attempt to place blame on everybody but myself ive been unjust to the people who are the product of the celibacy inflicted on WWII soldiers**, but I’ve tried to put my self in their shoes, the age old “walk a mile in their loafers” game, and I seriously cant figure out why they want us to suffer. Not only is my salary garnished to put ‘x’ amount of dollars into their social security slush fund, which has been predicted to die out by the year 2025 at the latest, but its my generation that will soon be succeeding them.
It’s gone beyond this individual trying to blame someone for how insufficient his life is, in writing this ive become more and more outraged by the injustices that are currently being committed against my society. Because they’re in charge they get to dictate to everyone how to live, what to pay and how to behave…hmmm, apparently because they were born in the 50’s and 60’s they have better morals than me***.
But on a serious note, the example set by many of the people in power today (Congress’s Ted Kennedy or Enron’s Kenneth Lay) is in a perfect template of what not to do. Ive recently begun embracing the idea that in a few years (8ish) I’ll be a trained professional in my field and I will be fulfilling the same role as some of the people in power today, and just to know that at 18 I can recognize that what these people are doing is absolutely nuts…well, it shows promise.
Age is the only thing that empowers these people, and in most instances *coughing to disguise the word congress*, wisdom does not come included. So ive deduced that there really is no solution but to wait. Someday I’ll have ED and be forced to wear a hairpiece, and that’s when ill be able to act…until them ill just continue to write blogs that waste peoples time and that don’t solve problems…it looks like I might have a future in politics****.
